Detailed description of Meriwether National Golf Course

Meriwether National Golf Course is a Public, 27 hole golf facility located in Hillsboro, Oregon. The facility has three 9-hole courss, they are: The North Course, The South Course and The West Course.

Meriwether National Golf Club opened in 1961 as an 18-hole course. The original course was designed by Fred Federspiel. The original course is the present day North and South Course.

Oak and willow trees, positioned throughout the original 18 hole course, provide beauty, shade and an unyielding hazard for errant shots.

The west course first opened for play in 1993. The West course was designed by Dave Powers.

The North Course plays to 3,373 yards from the back tees for a par of 36.

The South Course plays to 3,406 yards from the back tees for a par of 36.

The West Course plays to 3,346 yards from the back tees for a par of 36.

Situated in the Tualatin Valley countryside, roughly 30 minutes from downtown Portland, the quiet pastoral setting of Meriwether National Golf Club is a good counterpoint to the pressures of the city. Surrounded by rich farmland and flanked by the meandering Tualatin River, Meriwether's rolling terrain is rich in natural beauty. The 27 regulation holes are a mix of open space, trees, ponds and indigenous birds and wildlife.

This 27-hole championship golf course offers a nice challenge to all levels of ability. Contrary to the description on the first page, the original 18-hole layout consists of, what is now the West (original back nine) and North (original front.) Each has its own unique flavor with holes that are challenging to the experienced player, and manageable to the higher handicapper. The strongest hole on the entire course is the 428-yard Par-4 second hole on the North Course, which requires a drive the avoids the out-of-bounds (left) and the lake (right) which must be crossed on the second shot in order to reach the green. It's one of the few holes on the course with no bunkers, but with all the other problems, it doesn't need one.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
